World Economic forum informs that at Boshoek Primary School in South Africa\’s North West province football pitches turn rain into drinking water for school children. The artificial pitches collect rainwater, then a high-tech filter removes harmful particles. The water is sent to filtration device on the side of the pitch. Each pitch provides water to an estimated 2400 people.
The water can also be used to grow vegetables for stuff and pupils. After installing the artificial pitches, teachers have noticed fewer people getting sick and school attendance rising.
So far, nine fields have been installed across the country.
A water crisis is affecting millions in South Africa. Water scarcity is an increasingly pressing global issue and more solutions like these are badly needed.
