A criminal case on illegal resource exploitation


Hetq reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office has issued a statement saying that a gold mine has been extracted with illegal resource exploitation in a specially protected area of Arevik National Park. A criminal case has been initiated upon that.

The matter concerns Meghrasar’s gold mine, the resource exploitation rights of which was received by AT Metals LLC in 2014. The advisor of the two prime ministers of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan and Karen Karapetyan Hamlet Hovsepyan and his two sons are the owners of the company, together owning 48.8% shares of the company. The remaining 50.2% belongs to two Russian companies.

Prosecutor General’s Office informs that in 2017 10 thousands of tons of ore have been extracted, resulting in substantial damage to the environment, entrails and minerals in it.

For the implementation of the preliminary investigation, the criminal case has been sent to the Investigative Department of Syunik Region of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
