Will the Germans Endure This?
Heinrich-Böll German foundation informs that days ago they organized a meeting with Armenian politicians and activists in Berlin. In the meeting the former head of Nature Protection and Soil Inspection Artur Grigoryan showed a video about Artsvanik tailing damp asking the Germans if they would endure such a thing in their country.
Kajaran mine is used by “Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine” CJSC, the 60 % of which belong to Cronimet Mining German company.
Artur Grigoryan explained that it is a metal mine, where copper and molybdenum are extracted. Extremely dangerous and poisonous substance goes to the tailing damp guided by European standards. Grigoryan raised a question on how the Germans assess the activity as guided by European or German standards.
According to Grigoryan, the Armenian government must ground the fact that the activity corresponds to German standards. However, as it is not going to take any steps, he asks to try to make their own government explain their company that they should not treat the environment like that.
See the whole video of the meeting below. Artur Grigoryan’s speech is at 46:00.
