A Student launched “Zero Waste Communities” Project.

Hetq informs that a student from Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences Vahan Martirosyan has launched Zero Waste Communities project in Yerevan and the regions. It is a series of seminars and discussions on waste management and recycling. The aim of the project is to engage young people through non-formal education methods and to instruct them about the process of waste collection and recycling.

In the frameworks of the project, communities will be provided with waste sorting bins. Vahan wants community youth to be able to self-organize and carry out waste collection and sorting work in their communities after receiving some instruction.

Zero Waste Communities Project is partnering with the Eco Aghb NGO . According to its director Hripsime Mkrtchyan, awareness of waste recycling has a great role.  Almost everything in Armenia is recycled – polyethylene, plastic, glass, paper, but the other question is what are the conditions of that recycling. Even if it is not collected, then the waste is collected from the garbage bins. The role of the state in this respect is important.
