Ecolur informs that RA Government is planning to implement a fund of defense buildings, maintenance, preparation and modernization of existing buildings. To this aim, the executive is going to adopt a concept of Population protection in 2020.
In the document on 2019-2023 projects of RA Government it is mentioned that since the independence of Armenia the issue clarifying the legal status of shelters and fallout shelters has not been discussed. As a result, a lot of protection buildings have been alienated and the purpose of their usage has been changed. Now these buildings need preparation, furnishing, maintenance, upgrade and modernization.
According to Ecolur, the problem of the absence of fallout shelters in the communities located 5-10 kilometers away from the ANPP is urgent. In case of radiation, the shelters do not comply with the requirements of radiation safety norms and are not intended for long-term protection.
