BirthStrike because of \’the Ecological Crisis\’

CNN reports about a group of people who refuse to have children fearing the influence climate change will have on the environment in future.

33-year-old British musician Blythe Pepino mentions she really wants a kid, but she does not feel like the time is appropriate for that. According to her, there will be an \”ecological Armageddon\”. That’ why she founded BirthStrike at the end of 2018. It is a group of people who declare their decision not to have kids because of \”the severity of the ecological crisis.\”

BirthStrike is one of a number of groups around the world that are questioning the ethics of having children in a warming world. Another group is Conceivable Future, a network of women in America, founded in 2015 to bring awareness to \”the threat climate change poses to reproductive justice,\” although that group\’s members haven\’t discounted having children.

The fear surrounding the quality of life for future generations is not the only reason the members of BirthStrikers don\’t want to have children. In their opinion, it will result in extra emissions their kids, and their descendants, will produce.

Some studies suggest that instead society should focus on reducing the carbon footprint and limiting per-capita consumption.

Pepino believes that every passing day that people don\’t act is another day that more people will die, more species will become extinct and more likely people will be heading to a completely uninhabitable planet.
