MAMUL.am informs that their correspondent had a conversation with environmentalist-lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan on Nikol Pashinyan\’s conversation with citizens.
According to her, the international conventions have been violated. If the problem is raised internationally, there will be a huge scandal. The neighboring countries will want to apply for big sanctions as the water doesn\’t stay still, it goes somewhere. In Amulsar 10 thousand tons of cyanide will be mined- in a place which is a 10-magnitude earthquake zone.
N. Vardanyan cited the law. Paragraph 7 of Article 20 of the Law on Environmental Assessment and Expertise states: “The conclusion of the expert opinion shall be void if the planned activity does not start within one year after the conclusion of the expert opinion. This activity was noted mining of gold quartzites in the expert opinion. \”
Hence, Lydian having the expert conclusion in 2010, should have done the mining. As for this year, as N. Vardanyan mentions, the mine should have been close as the project was 10 years old.
