PV Europe informs that birds actively build their nests under PV panels resulting in soiling or damage to PV panels. The output from the panels decreases when the natural ventilation is blocked by twigs and other nesting material. The hotter the panel gets, the lower its efficiency. Moreover, there is even a risk of fire as the twigs the birds use may also cause scratches on the back sheet of the panel, which can result in problems with ground potential leakage.
Now, there is a solution to the problem. With BirdBlocker the chance of birds nesting under the PV panels will be minimized. The system can be applied to the edges of most models of PV panel and is practically invisible. It is most effective when applied as part of the installation process for any new panels.
According to the Director of Van der Valk Solar Systems, adding BirdBlocker to PV panels increase the durability of the panels.
