Biodiversity Finance: Why Global Nature Targets Need More Than Promises

At the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP17) in Yerevan, governments are reviewing progress toward the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Its 2030 goals include conserving at least 30% of land and sea areas and mobilizing more funding for biodiversity.

But translating international commitments into measurable progress remains difficult. Financing gaps, harmful subsidies and uneven monitoring complicate implementation.

What does this mean for businesses?

Companies can assess their dependence on natural resources, reduce impacts across their supply chains and support credible ecosystem restoration. In green marketing, environmental claims should be supported by evidence, transparent reporting and measurable outcomes.

The priority is not simply promising to protect nature; it is demonstrating progress.
