Armenian Public Television informs that smart trash bins will soon appear in Yerevan streets. People can throw plastic items there getting a discount card for restaurants or shops as a gratitude.
\’Future\” project marketing manager Hayk Kazaryan told that a large amount of plastic was collected at his home. So he wrote a post on Facebook about what to do with the plastic, and came up with the idea. The first response came from the students of the Dilijan College, German Sedric and Russian Mikhail. However, the idea came true after one of the Armenian IT companies joined them.
This is how the trash bin works: from the community we get a QR code (or a printed version for older people) on the phone, the bin reads the code, writes your name and surname and opens. When the box is opened, you throw the plastic item, it is weighted, indicating the bonus points you have received. The smaller and safer the plastic material, the more bonus points you get.
Already 40 restaurants and shops have agreed to give discount cards to those who care for the environment.
The smart bins are an innovation in the world, because not only plastic bottles go there. People can throw any kind of plastic in the trash bin.
First smart trash bins will be placed in the central administrative district of Yerevan.
